"Part of me thought about skipping it today but I’m so glad I came in."

Do you look forward to working out? Lack of motivation is not the thing that’s stopping you from training.

Something we don’t often hear in APEX (not that we like to blow our own trumpet, but we pride ourselves on our clients falling in love with training) but particularly during the cold months of the year when the wind is howling, the rain is pelting down and the dark mornings and nights are still hanging around…. it gets a little bit harder to come back out of the house.

Our reply? There is absolutely no one we’ve ever met that is buzzing to exercise every single time they have it planned.  No one. Even us coaches.

Motivation is a fleeting notion.  We often rely on feeling motivated to get the job done and think we should feel it all of the time, or we get down on ourselves when we don’t feel motivated and instead we have that “dragging-your-heels” kinda feeling….

But the truth is motivation is not the thing that keeps people on track, and lack of it is not the thing that is stopping you.

What keeps us on track is the habit, the routine, the showing up anyway and knowing that you will feel better for having ticked the box (and giving yourself permission to not always be somersaulting through the doors with excitement).

When you enjoy how you train you rely far less on motivation and it becomes a habit, a part of your routine, something you don't think about you just do (and hopefully for the most part look forward to).

If you find yourself constantly dreading your training, struggling to stick to it for more than a few weeks and feeling distressed at the thought of having to do it for the rest of your life, its not motivation you need. Its probably a fresh outlook on your training and finding a way of moving you enjoy.
